The Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA) was founded in 1992, when the Park had fallen into decline and was in need of restoration. The Alliance, working closely with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, spearheaded the restoration, development and management of the Park. Having played in softball leagues on Randall’s Island in the early ’90s, Andrew witnessed firsthand the changes the Park has undergone and takes pride in being part of its remarkable transformation.
Andrew Patapis Design first became involved with Randall’s Island in 1997, working on the “Softball, N.Y.” fundraiser. Since then our designs have been the driving force for events such as “Celebration of Soccer in the USA,” “Sportsfest,” “Champions for Children,” “Tennis Champions for Children” and “Fielding Dreams NYC.” Randall’s Island “Sportsfest” is a full day of interactive sporting events for children, featuring food and family activities. We created a series of “Matisse-inspired” figures that were incorporated into the design of the Sportsfest’s posters, flags, signage, banners, tote bags, bandanas, stickers and balloons. In 2012, when the Park wanted to appeal to a more diverse, mature audience with interests in the Arts, Music and Nature, we were engaged to create the “Fielding Dreams NYC” logomark for the event’s branding.
